Cast

These characters are the ones used in my mock of my music video.


 Charlie Bartle - Plays the part of the main character in my music video. The story is being told from her point of view.















Corey Mitchell - Plays The main characters new love interest, she is seen with this character in many shots flirting.
















Jennie Hicks- Plays the main characters ex love interest. They have made mistakes and the main character is making her jealous. This character is whom the main character is singing to for most of the song.

Where will my music video feature?

My music video will feature on a number of different social media websites. The first one being youtube. Youtube is a very popular website that is used to share videos all around the globe. It can be used to share your own personal videos, however artists have their own channels to share their musc videos and any other media they have featured in e.g. interviews. I can also put it on websites such as twitter via a simple tweet linking it to the youtube video.

Previous unsuccessful products (A2)


1.
  • This person has not used sufficient lighting, it was very dark and it was difficult to see what they had filmed.
  • The editing was very slow however the songs pace was fast which did not fit and confused me.
  • The cinematography chosen was poor and did not fit with the genre of the song, it was clear that it wasn't supposed to be an abstract video but it felt more like one than a narrative music video.
  • This video received an E grade.
2.
  • This person filmed people who clearly couldn't play the instruments that were being put in front of them. They were out of time and had no enthusiasm.
  • The costumes that the actors were wearing did not fit with the genre of music and it was clear they had just turned up in what they were wearing that day.
  • Lip syncing featuring in the video was poor and could have been better edited. This person may not have been playing the song whilst recording these shots.
  • This video received an E grade.
3.
  • This person had not used a tri-pod to record their shots. Sometimes in videos this is okay but it looked messy and unprofessional.
  • There were far too many long shots, they hadn't used a variety of shots and it would get boring after a while.
  • This video received a D grade.

I watched some professional music videos and noted down what I liked and Dislikes about them.

Demi Lovato - Made in the USA

Liked
  • There was a narrative to the video.
  • There was an introduction before the song started.
  •  It includes the artist and her lip-syncing.
  • Pace of editing fitted the speed of the song and edited to the beat.
  • There was several different settings.
Dislike
  • There was too many flashbacks in the video which made it very confusing and difficult to understand unless you watch it multiple times.
Blink 182 - All the Small Things

Liked
  • There was a few different narratives making the video interesting, they were taking the mick out of groups and boy bands and how they would film a music video.
  • They also used Black & White in their video to show this.
Dislike
  • People could be offended by these comments and by the fact that in some of the video they are completely naked (however it was blurred)

  • There was a narrative to the video.
  • The edits were top the beat.
  • Featured a performance from the artist/s.
Dislike
  • The artist was not very good at lip-syncing so it was very obvious that is had been dubbed over.
  • There was very few locations (2).

  • There were lots of people in the video (cast).
  • It was edited to the beat.
  • Used CGI for parts of the chorus 'It's our party...'.
Dislike
  • Miley is being exploited as she is wearing provocative clothing and acting in certain ways in which some people may find inappropriate such as shaking her bottom to the camera.
Sinead O'Connnor - Nothing compares

  • The video used long cuts because it was a slow song. It also emphasised the seriousness of the song as did the fact that the video was in black and white.
  • Lipsyncing adds to the verisimilitude of the video.
Dislike
  • Video gets boring after a while because it is the same all the way through.
Grimes ft. Blood Diamonds - Go

  • The setting is in the desert which is unusual for music videos.
  • they used a fish eye lens which gave a very different fell to the video.
  • It was an abstract music video.
  • Use of neon paint in the mise-en-scene made the song very light-hearted.
Dislike
  • Lip syncing is out of time.
  • Mirror shots in the video do not work.

LIIAR of P!nk - So What?

LIIAR - P!nk - So What?

Language - 
Mise-en-scene - Pink has short bleached hair which is uncommon for a woman because they're stereo-typically seen to have long flowing natural coloured hair e.g. brown. We also see that there is 'Alicia & Carey' carved into a tree this showed that she cared about her partner and we see her getting upset about cutting it down, she doesn't want to let go. She is also cutting down the tree using a chainsaw which is a very powerful piece of equipment and she cant handle it she has to lean backwards which makes her look weak because she is a woman whilst she is doing this she is also wearing a pair of high heels. This shows that even doing a mans job she must try to remain feminine because she is a lady. When she is in the bar she is wearing revealing clothing that is red in colour which is usually a sign of danger which is quite devilish, shows she is a dangerous woman but it can also be a sign of love, because she has just split from her partner. Later in the video we also see her hair set on fire, much like the red top this is also quite devilish and makes her look stupid and weak for this happening to her. Almost like karma for being s trouble causer.

Editing -There are 20 shots in the chorus alone which is fairly normal if not a bit slower paced for a pop video because some shots are slower than others and some are a lot faster.

Cinematography - There is a mid-shot of her getting a tattoo at the very beginning of the video this shows she is rebelling. There is a long shot behind her on a slow vehicle showing her blocking the road again showing she is rebellious and that she doesn't care for other peoples feelings.There is a close-up of the boyfriend holding hands over her eyes as this happens she sings 'I don't know where he went' this is quite humorous and shows us they had a good relationship, it also sheds light on the subject of relationships. There is another close-up of her face as she's thinking about smashing the electric guitar, and we see her face change from normal to smirking as she lifts the guitar above her head and continues to attempt to break the guitar. After this there is a mid-shot of her punching the male in the guitar shop in the face, similarly to the other shots this shows she doesn't care about other peoples feelings because she could've really hurt this man and cost him a lot of money buy potentially breaking a very expensive guitar.There are also shots of her having a pillow fight whilst only wearing underwear with other men. and woman showing that she is over her partner and is ready top move on. A shot-reverse-shot shows her neighbour looking at her cutting down the tree, follows a long shot falls into his garden and he runs away showing she is more powerful than him and he looks weak, another long shot follows of her thrusting her hips forward in admiration of herself. she doesn't care about his fence or that she could've harmed him.

Sound -  right at the end Pink 'blows a raspberry' with her tongue, this is usually a sign to show someone that you aren't interested or that you don't care. She doesn't care about her partner because he's a 'tool'.

Institution - P!nk (Alicia Moore) is signed to Laface records  a label owned by Sony Music Entertainment. It had its biggest success in the 1990's in 2004 it was rebooted and began operating through Jive Records.

Ideology - Woman was in a relationship and they break up because they had a fight over a certain topic. she feels like she doesn't need him so she starts doing things that normally people don't do e.g. trying to break guitars of driving in the middle of the road on a what looked to be some sort of lawnmower. But she cries when she can't chop down the tree and in some shots looks very sad. She is just putting on an act to make it seem like she doesn't want him but secretly she does.

Audience - The Audience for this music video is aged between 13 & 25. Pink is a more sophisticated artist more so than Avril Lavigne there fore her audience is automatically older. Although the topic is similar to that of 'What The Hell' it is done with a more serious way by using marriage and 'real love'.

Representation - The representation in this video is that women are strong and that they don't need a man. However Pink is seen to get upset when she can't cut down the tree which makes her look weak. It also represents men as being cheaters as she is telling women that her man cheated on her and is saying that you can do without.

LIIAR Analysis - Girlfriend - Avril Lavigne

Language - 

Mise-en-scene- The main male character in the music video wears a lot of black clothing, this fits in with the genre of the video which is pop-punk, punk syled clothing is usually blacks, reds and other dark colours of which he is wearing black jeans and a patterned black t-shirt. New Avril is also wearing a lot of black clothing as well as having straight jet black hair. When Avril is performing she has a pink stripe in her hair although pink is seen as a feminine colour it is also a sign of rebelling. Where as the current Avril wears pink clothing and is very girl, has curly hair and everything flows. She also wears glasses which shows she is quite intelligent. She is conventional of pop music videos. Avril's logo is seen in the video and it is a skull and cross bone this is also symbolic of punk music.
setting - The boyfriend and current Avril are seen going into an old fashioned looking place, she is quite a traditional girl and therefore goes here, she is a 'girly girl' New Avril is seen inside and she looks out of place inside because she is wearing all black and the rest of the place is very country in that is is mostly greens, yellows and browns. Where as when new Avril is seen with the boyfriend she is in wacky places such as the golf course or go carting. Shows she is daring and dangerous which is again conventional of punk rockers.

Editing - The video is fast paced which emphases Avril's need to get this boy, she wants him now. There is roughly 25 cuts in the chorus alone. There was one particular part lasting 3 second with up to 10 shots in it.

Cinematography - There is a close-up  of Avril saying 'hey hey you you',directly looking into the camera pointing, this develops a greater bond between artist and viewer and makes it seem like she is directing it at them. There are long shots showing a performance and band/artist logo, this advertises Avril and directs to her fans.There is a tracking shot behind the go carts in which are current Avril and the boyfriend. Can be classed as an establishing shot because it shows you where they are. There is then a close-up of current Avril pulling a smug face and thinking she has won him over because she knew she was loosing him, she is jealous. She is then crashed into by new Avril she fails to control the cart making her look weak and powerless.There is then a series of mid shots shoeing new Avril celebrating and the boyfriend smiling. This indicates that he wanted that to happen to his girlfriend. In these shots new Avril is literally shoving current Avril out of the way, this is a connotation of pushing her out of the relationship. There is a mid shot of Avril singing 'she's like so whatever' and as she sings this she acts out the symbol for being crazy which is twirling your finger by your temple.She is using 'Whatever' as another term for crazy. She is doing this to persuade the boyfriend not to be with her. There is an over the shoulder  shot (over the boyfriends shoulder) current Avril is smiling whilst he is busy eating the pastry desert he doesn't care, he doesn't care about being romantic with her.

Sound - There is a 15 second intro before the song starts where the couple walk into the golf place and the girlfriend looks at punk Avril and looks down on her. This is what makes Avril want to replace her and be his boyfriend because she realises that the two aren't meant for each other. There is also a very short piece at the end where new girlfriend says 'Yes' because she got exactly what she wanted.

Ideology - this video is about a couple who were happy until a new girl comes along and thinks she should be his girlfriend not his current girlfriend. In the end the couple do split and she does get him as a boyfriend. the whole video is her trying to convince him to be with her and constantly being better at everything than his current girlfriend. The current girlfriend and the new girlfriend are both played by Avril Lavigne. This could mean that all the girl needs to do to be his perfect girlfriend is change a few things about herself. Maybe he doesn't like the way she acts.

Audience - The audience for this music video is aged 11 - 18 this is because it addresses issues that most teenagers face as they grow up such as; jealousy, relationships and breakups. Again like 'Sk8r Boi' the audience will be primarily female as it is sang from a females point of view therefore they will be able to relate to the lyrics of the song.

Representation - Representation in this music video is that girls are made jealous very easily and that girls only want what they can't have. Current Avril was playing the part of the jealous girlfriend and new Avril was playing the part of wanting things she can't have.

LIIAR - Sk8r Boi - Avril Lavigne

Language - There is a short break at the beginning of the video before the soundtrack starts, this short clip shows a wall and what the video is about, which I believe to be a concert that is being advertised this is seen in the mise-en-scene with the repetition of the red star symbol to represent the band.there is also another break after the soundtrack has finished, it is a helicopter above Avril, she looks up to the helicopter and has done a bad thing.

Mise-en-scene - they have used a lot of technology in this video to show the audience that the people in the video are teenagers, the type of teen seen in the video (punk-rockers) are often seen playing video games and being anti-social.This is seen when one of the male's spray paints a large red star in the middle of the road. They are wearing punk clothing which includes,a lip ring which one of the males is wearing, baggy jeans and t-shirts. The clothes they wear do not conform to what teens would wear. they also use skateboards which links to the song name and reminds us what the song is about. It is also the males which are on the bikes and scooters etc. Avril is carried on a bike.
The settings are mainly run down buildings where the teens 'hang out', the shabby buildings represent the shabby attitude of the teenagers and further emphasises their scruffy clothing choices.

Cinematography - There is a high angle shown of a young male jumping into a pot hole in the road showing he is rebellious and he is trying to get away from the trouble he is going to be in.Similarly a long/full shots shows what they're doing as the group are coming down the stairs of their hideout they're jumping down the banisters and free styling on their bikes. Being rebellious. Just before the chorus starts the camera pans down from the top of a building right down to the bottom watching as a TV is being slung down by a 'punk-rock' male.the camera is hand held emphasising the chaos that these teens are causing. This is seen again as there is a full shot behind  two of the teens on a bike throwing leaflets behind them creating mess inside a public place and they do not seem to care. They are trouble causers.Right at the very end of the video there is a low angle shot showing a police helicopter, this shot makes look as though the police more powerful than her because she is below them. These shots all show the same thing and it is these teens causing havoc, they're creating a bad image for young punk-rock teenagers.

Editing - the cuts in this music video are edited to the beat, it is a fast paced video which goes with the theme of the video with the teens jumping off things and being dangerous. There are 32 cuts in the chorus alone which is roughly one second a cut.

Ideology - This music video is about a story told from Avril's P.O.V about her 'sk8r boi' boyfriend and a girl that he knew in high school who rejected him because he was a skateboarder and she was a bit of a snob.

Audience - the audience for this music video is aged between 11 & 18. the song mentions high school so the viewers have to be young. Mainly a female audience as it is being sung from a females P.O.V. These people will like Any music from Pop to Rock so it is a very wide audience in terms of music taste but a small audience in terms of age which gives the song a rough age margin of 7 years.

Representation - Avril is represented as a typical teenage rebel, this is shown through out the video as the is jumping of things and running around with her 'rocker boyfriend' she wears clothes that don't particularly match and they aren't female clothing e.g. skirt and a pretty pink top she's wearing trainers baggy jeans and a snap-back, she is breaking conventions again showing she is a rebel. At the very end of the video she is also caught by the police for performing on to of a car.
